With the economy continually tanking and fluctuating, recently an American car company heavy hitter announce their bankruptcy.

Chrysler has been a popular brand of cars for many years and their announcement to become bankrupt was just one of many hints that proved the economy tanking.

Of course, this news does not entirely mean that the economical state of Chrysler is completely in the tank; they will remain bankrupt until they can stand on their feet again.

But with other leading American brands like GM are facing hard times as well. GM just announced their detachment of Pontiac cars from their corporation.

As the days fly by and we are down to the boiling point at Georgia Southern University, the recent news has been on the plateau of The Swine Flu.

Because the news has been bombarded with coverage over this breech of Pandemic, many other points in the news have been forgotten.

Good thing our great friends at Comedy Central have kept us calm and sane with the wonderful and witty programming of The Daily Show.

"Swagga"

My peer and classmate Sade Oshinubi tried to post this Jon Stewart embedded video on her blog, and since I am a very huge supporter of The Daily Show and The Colbert Report, I felt the need... nay, the obligation to post and write on what my dear friend Sade wanted to post on her blog.

In this segment, John Stewart and his news correspondant talk about grading the president during his 100 years... and then explaining that after this day, that should be enough! Because God knows how many news station were on going about Obama's progress as president during his first 100 days in office.

But, to be more blount, the part of this flick that was the most appealing was when The Daily Show showed a clip from CNN and the news anchor (a white female) who attempted to show her "flava" side.

Swine Fun

There has been one topic that has been recently all over the news outlets and people are on the brink of pronouncing the issue a pandemic. This being said, the complete give-away answer is the topic of the Swine Flu outbreak.

Starting in Mexico City, Mexico, this virus has been spreading like wild fire throughout the whole country. There have been several cases in the United States already established as Swine Flu, but there has not yet been an official American death.

The only instance where there has been a death in America is when 23 month year old baby was confirmed for the Swine Flu and shortly passed away; this child being from Mexico and transported to Texas for healthcare.

Though there has been cases national in the U.S., the cases that were found were quickly treated and the situation in America is currently assessed as much as the government can do at the moment.

Moving away from the quick Swine Flu recap, on The Daily Show, this topic also presented itself... in a more informal way, of course.

I just wanted to recap one instance where Jon Stewart showed the diagram of the country of Canada.

I know that the flu is not a topic which is easily made fun of, but Stewart makes the issue, like always, humorous.

Canada, if you see in the flick, is highlighted in a bright orange hue. There in bold text on the screen, are the words, "1 CASE FOUND."

Stewart, with his sarcastic sense of humor, says, "What?" and something on the lines of, "Because of one case the whole country has to be highlighted... ...I wonder how the country would look for the Herpes outbreak."

That was the high point of the segment to me and filled me with glee.

And I'm sure if any of you saw it, you would laugh as well... cheer up America!

Micheal J. Fox and Gay Iowa

The episode on The Daily Show that was broadcasted on April 6, 2009, was rather interesting yet again. It opens up with Jon Stewart talking about one of the more baffling news breaks in the media world; Iowa rejecting a ban on gay marriage within their State Constituion.

It is hilariously portrayed with its representation of the Gay Parade in Iowa, consisting of a farmer riding a tractor through a dirt road while local residences watch the parade unfolding.

Also, from the last blog, the show transitions into, "The Last Thing We Need," having Stewart elaborate on North Korea's missile launch.

Let's jump to the special guest, Michael J. Fox. One of the main reason's why I respect Fox is because he knew what he was advocating and did it in a fair way. He supported politicians and endorsed those politicians who found that Stem Cell Research was a very important tool in creating a cure for Parkinson's Disease, and not to mention other illnesses.

I'll take a minute to reflect on the way I feel about people who are against Stem Cell Research; It's like the diabetics in PETA who are against lab testing on animals. Sure, I feel horrible to those animals, but I feel that they are being misrepresentated. It's all a pile of hypocrisy.

Stem cells are those which the medical deems unusable. They are virtually dead already due to the fact that the hospital throws them away. So, honestly, I do not see why we shouldn't use them if they are going to benefit those who are life-strictened with diseases.

Then, to add on to those ignorant to the others who are struggling with diseases, there is no sign of sympathy. It's repulsive to me... and I know to those who have read my other blogs (which I'm sure is everyone in the class...shyea right), the whole Fox v. Limbaugh issue is pretty redundant, but you have to realize who's out there and how to they deal with issues. Limbaugh does not show any sign of sympathy and he sucks at life.

But, without him voicing his own opinion, that would defeat the whole process of freedom of speech. So, you would actually have to look on both sides of the story.
I'm assuming that the only thing that good and intelligent Americans can do is let ignorant people be ignorant and repulsive; it's the democratic way!

Obama Overseas Pt. 2

I had previously written an entry that touched on the trip that President Obama took overseas to meet with the world leaders at the G-20 summit. An episode on the Daily Show touched on it as well, but made more of a reference to other media's coverage on the event.

The publicity that Obama got from Europe was overwhelming to say the least. The speech that he gave the Parliament of Turkey was both innovative and inspirational. For the first time in my adult life I could witness my president as an honorable and intellegent individual... and not a moron which I would be globally embarrassed about.

Anywho, with many media stations such as CNN speaking about how well he did and how receptive the audience was, Fox news came to the rescue to balance out the majority's opinion.

From the video you can see that Fox News clearly loves partisanship. And in no way am I stating that the Democratic party is perfect, we're all human; we fuck up at times. I just get the impression that a lot of what is comprised at Fox is, at most, the opinions of the reporters and, not to mention, the executives of this network.

I love the small segment that Stewart devoted to personally addressing the conservative community; "you guys are the minority... it's actually not too bad."

haha.

It's hilarious to me that our president did such a wonderful job and there are still so many peope, within the Republican party, that are watching his success and trying to swallow it down.

I really hope that Obama succeeds...

Screw you Limbaugh.

Oh, North Korea.

Who doesn't like a nice bowl of kimchi and some bulgogi and rice?

But North Korea has recently resurfaced in the news lately with its launch on a nuclear missile which frankly, puts me in an uneasy state of mind.

Sure, Japan threatened that if any hint of the missile, that was launched last week, were to present itself within the Japanese borders, they were clearly prepared to respond against those efforts.

Then, it seems that the United States citizens are being asked throughout the several news organizations the same generalized question; "How should we respond to North Korea?"

Talk about a nuclear explosion in my mind. When I sat and asked myself that question one major title came flashing which reaked havoc through all the nerve endings in my body; World War III.

Let's back up to the surge within Iraqi borders then fast forward to the new surge on Pakastani lands and the soldiers re-deployments to Afghanistan. Then add into the mix a shit load of communist Koreans and you have a blood bath to say the least.

This thought that revealed itself to my mind is a bit too soon of a conclusion to come to, but in no way is it an irrelevant thought to concur with.

How about them terrorist apples?

We are not only combating the Taliban and Osama Bin Ladin, but Kim Jong II?

All I've got to say is that we all better invest in wetsuits and floaties!

Riot in the UK?

Boy would the band Anti-Flag be proud for todays eruption in London for the G 20 meeting.

Barack Obama met up with several leaders from different countries for their meeting to speak on the world crisis at hand; the economy.

While Obama was eating crumpets and drinking tea with the Queen, hundreds and hundreds of protesters were huddling the streets in London in front of the major banks of the city.

I am assuming that the Europeans are just as pissed as we are but they are not waiting around for their government to do something about it.

Granted, I don't think that we should result in vandalism and violence, but this is a huge symbol of what people are going through around the world, not just in our little western corner of the earth.

I don't know about you, but now is not the time for name calling and fighting between the two party lines within government. Republicans need to suck it up and work together...

Come on congressmen, now is the time to do your jobs... you do know what your occupation is, right?

The Legalization of Marijuana

Several concerns and questions come up with the thought of Marijuana, or Cannabis, becoming legalized.

The plant is obviously still illegal; hence all the drug dealers and smugglers in the world. Wouldn't there be an easier way to handle or even profit off of Weed where the U.S. can essentially make the product more consumerable?

Legalize It; 2006 Perspective!

Granted, not everyone feels that legalizing the substance is the best route, but how often do people die from "overdose" on weed?

It also appears that the 'high' that is experienced with alcohol is unfathomably worse or dangerous than those experienced from weed.

Of course, we see many ways in which marijuana is used for medicinal purposes which many States have allowed their hospitals to use. The health field has certainly seen the positive aspects of weed, why can't our government?

Profits. Money. Greed.

It's a bit puzzling to believe that marijuana has not already been legalized in the states. Amsterdam has the right idea.

Then it also makes me very perplexed at the various journalists that are show interviewing and not actually challenging these fatcats.

It is a bit of a disgrace because they are supposed to be journalists and when it pertains to political and financial matters, people want to know exactly how their money is being spent. If journalists were supposed to agree entirely with these certain individuals, how much corruption would there actually be within our government?

Where are the Woodwards and Burnsteins?!
...Limbaugh? ahaha.
That last one was for my laughs.

But then when you actually see journalists do their jobs now a days, your still considered "liberal media" or "political pundits." I say bravo to those who are on the air to actually expose substance that should be questioned.

The feud that began was not the only thing that made me chuckle. Kramer actually came onto The Daily Show and was interviewed by Stewart and had to be the best thing in my life!
